We have been learning about writing recounts and about how recounts are set out. The purpose of our recounts was to describe past experiences to inform our reader’s about what we have been doing this year.
There are three types of recounts
- Personal Recounts
- Factual Recounts
- Imaginative Recounts
The success criteria we came up with for a good recount is:
1. Have a title which links to your writing and gains readers’ attention
2. In your first paragraph, mention the WHO, WHERE, WHEN, WHY
3. Each paragraph should describe a specific part of the event and the events should be in order of when they happened.
4. Finish your recount with a concluding statement which expresses your personal opinion regarding the events described.
5. Add descriptive words to help your reader visualise the event.
6. A good recount is always written in past tense and uses a range of sentence beginnings such as, ‘Next… After…The following day… Meanwhile… Later… Eventually’
